📊 Understanding Your Results

Square Feet — Total lawn area to be sodded. Used to order sod from suppliers.

Pallets — Full pallets needed including 5–10% waste for cuts. Standard pallets cover 400–500 sq ft.

Cost Estimate — Material cost only. Does not include topsoil preparation, delivery or installation labor.

How the Sod Calculator Works

Our sod calculator determines your lawn’s total square footage, converts it to pallets and estimates material cost based on your selected grass type. The calculator automatically includes a waste factor for edge cuts.

The Sod Formula

Step 1: Area (sq ft) = Length × Width
Step 2: Pallets = Area ÷ Pallet Coverage (round up)
Step 3: Add 5–10% for cuts and irregular shapes
Step 4: Cost = Area × Price per sq ft

Example: 40×25 ft lawn = 1,000 sq ft. At 450 sq ft/pallet = 2.22 pallets — order 3. At $0.45/sq ft = $450 in materials.
